No. You didn't miss any rumours. This was completely out of the blue.

Looks like it will finally deliver the level of integration we should have across all the platforms.

Well this is a surprise...
I still have Leopard on my iMac, because I don't want to buy SL then Lion the same day.
I have Lion on my MacBook though, could I copy it over somehow?

^That's the problem! The only other people I know who use Macs bought them with SL preinstalled and upgraded to Lion from there.
Still, got nen coin for the minute, so I can't really eBay an old one now. Could I go to ML from SL?

In my opinion, I don't like the name. There aren't any big cats that are more majestic/powerful than a Lion, I think this should have been a small upgrade rather than a whole new 10.xx

Alex,

If you want to upgrade to Lion, I could post you my copy of Snow Leopard, as long as you post it back after you have upgraded to Lion

^Would that work? Is there not licensing stuff etc. on the disc so it can be installed only on one machine at a time?
How smooth would the transition from Leopard to SL be? I intended not to do a clean install...

I cant see licensing being an issue, as I am not running Snow Leopard any more, and if you plan to upgrade to Lion, then you won't be either.

It's no different to me selling the disc to someone really.

I was able to make a disc from my Lion install and used that to do a clean install on my other machines. So I am not sure you need SL if you can make a disc or mem stick.

Hmm, suppose so. So could I then get to ML from SL?
If not then I still have that silly middle ground bit where I install Lion for a period of hours before getting ML... :-/
I suppose if that's the case I could stay on SL for the iMac, I will be able to get Mountain Lion straight off the MacBook which has Lion on it already

I'm not sure on this, I would hope it is possible and that Mountain Lion replaces Lion in the App Store.

The first step is to get the App Store in the 1st place and for that you will need Lion or Snow Leopard, the offer still stands for the disk.

Have u considered Homer's advice of making a Lion install disk from your Macbook?

I had a brief look into copying Lion to my iMac, but it all seemed very dangerous to me... I'm scared of meddling with something big like a new install...

Has anyone tried it yet?

Any views, or are we waiting for Will?

I got it on day one. Reasonably happy so far.

Upgrade process was simple and I had no problems. I also did a clean install from the boot partition on my iMac. The only thing I didnt like about that was that it insisted on downloading Mountain Lion from apple - why not save all the required files on the recovery partition? Main problem with this is that for me at least it takes a couple of hours to download.

Have so far found Mail and Safari apps to be unstable, both have crashed several times. Also had a problem running the system prefs for Mail and Accounts at one point, it kept crashing until I restarted the mac.

All the 'important' third party apps that I use work fine, Eclipse, VM Ware, VirtualBox and Sugarsync to name a few.

Cant say I use or have even noticed many enhacements.

Had a go at using the dictation and interestingly out of the dozen or so sentences I tried the only one that ML got 100% correct was "This does not work very well does it?"

Cheers

Mark
