I couldn't help myself and finally went for a Trackpad and Apple Battery Charger…. there's something quite special about unwrapping Apple products….
Loving the multi-touch!

I managed to resist... but I talked a work colleague into a 27in iMac & iPod nano for his girlfriend.. :-)
Totally agree about the Trackpad... it's brilliant!

I totally managed to resist. In fact, I've been resisting temptations for over a year now.
You see, I have no spare money. It means I prefer not to spend on stuff I'd dearly love, but simply cannot afford to own right now. So, while I could spend out on all the stuff I really want to the maximum of my credit card limit, I won't be happier because of it.
It's a tough life sometimes.

I've got a friend who ran up over £30k credit card debt - I couldn't believe it a she had always been so sensible. I have to admit to giving in to a few small things every now and then to help me not buy the 27" iMac I really want but don' t need.

I do give in to the occasional item - a book or a DVD, or some hobby item that I simply can't miss in case I never see it again. Rarely do I get above £20 or £30, though.
I've been planning upgrades to my MacBook Pro. I want a new hard drive, more RAM and Snow Leopard. I can't afford all three. Yes, things are that bad... =o( So, I think Best Beloved is planning on the hard drive as my Christmas gift, and I can just about afford Snow Leopard (£25? I think I can just manage that), but the RAM will have to wait a while, even though it's currently a very good price and affordable if I stretch things a bit.
I've been planning on buying a new DSLR and lenses for a couple of years. That's going to have to wait, probably for a good while longer at this rate. It's one of those things that's "nice to have, but I don't really need", so it has to wait.
I also want a nicer, newer, cheaper-to-run car, but again, no money, no car.
At least we can afford to keep a roof over our heads, pay the bills and feed the cats. We're lucky in not having a mortgage, so it's just utilities, council tax, food and car costs to cover.
We get by. Things will get better. I'm supposed to be self-employed, but work is dead and has been for a year now. I'm looking for jobs, but rarely even get to the interview stage these days. I am resigned to the fact that people don't seem to want talented nearly-50-somethings, preferring cheap graduates who know nothing.
I'll stop now. I can hear someone tuning up their violin. =oD

I'm lucky in that the more grey hair I get the more I can charge but think that it's only a matter of time before that starts reversing. You're in design aren't you? Why not share your portfolio and you never know - someone on the forum might know someone that has a need!

I may do that. I've been trying to plan where I want to go for 2011.

The BritishMac podcast has about 26,000 listeners and about 65% are in the UK. So if you want me to advertise your services (for free of course) I would be delighted to.

Will, thank you for that generous thought.
I am taking stock of life, the universe and everything at the moment. Hopefully I'll have things sorted out in my head to try and start again in the new year. I'll bear a free advert on BM in mind.
Thank you. =o)
