It is hard to get good help. If you have had excellent service from a shop, a software developer or indeed anyone then you can now nominate them for the (BM)DSO It seems only fitting that British Mac the bastion of all things excellent should have it's own version. So please nominate anybody who has surprised you with their most excellent level of service. Mr Cat

It's a bit cliched, but Apple themselves. Ordered a new iPod nano yesterday lunchtime for my daughter with custom engraving on. It's been delivered today, less than 24 hours after the order was placed. I'm impressed by this because of the fact that it's been personalised and I'd expect it to take a week.

I nominate UK iPod repairs. I dropped my iPod, took it to my local Apple dealer and they said it wasn't worth repairing (by Apple) and I'd be better buying a new one (at £180 - yeah, right - like I have £180 lying about). I sent it off to UK iPod repairs and the email me in less than 24 hours to say it was a battery fault and the repair cost was £40 (new battery). I posted the iPod on the Thursday evening and I had it back and working on Tuesday. Part of that delay was I tried to pay by the bank's "Faster Transfer" system - which evidently doesn't work so quickly on a Friday!

I second that nomination. They have just fixed my headphone jack when nobody else wanted to know. £45 and a very fast service.

I posted this in another forum, but the Cat pounced, and...
Here it is, in the right place: I've had SuperDuper! (the name includes an exclamation mark) running on this machine for a year or so, and it's been totally reliable. In fact, when my hard disk became corrupted last Christmas I managed to recover everything from it.
Last Sunday evening it kicked off at 9:30 PM and soon hit a problem and stopped. It automatically raises a screen to send stuff off to Shirt Pocket Support, so I filled that out and decided to come back to it later (I've got two backups running - the other one is Memeo).
An hour later, I had an email from Dave Nanian saying that he didn't have enough information from the auto notification, and asking for further details. I copied the log into an email and sent it off. Fifteen minutes later he came back with advice on how to reset everything back, but he was puzzled - he couldn't see why the program should have failed in that way. This was timed at 23:56, Sunday night!
I did what I should have done in the first place - re-booted. Everything worked fine, to my embarrassment. I sent him an apologetic note, and got a reply at 06:23 this morning.
Now, THAT's what I call support! I should have re-booted anyway before bothering him, but the software's been so reliable...
Good stuff. And good software.
