Hi everyone, there seems to be a pretty serious problem for a few people with the new Safari download (3.2) I had no problems but immediately on restart my wife had a spinning beach ball of death. There are various ideas flying around on the Apple Support discussion boards including plug-ins, the new anti-phishing feature and running Firefox at the same time. if you do have the problem, this is process I followed that seems to have sorted it out: run maintenance scripts via macjanitor repair disk permissions via disk utility remove safari and safari rss reader plist files restart I have disabled anti-phishing feature as a precaution for information. In original beach ball of death scenario - not running Firefox an no plugs-ins in Safari. System differs to mine only in running Office 2004 cheers - BB

No problems here on the Bat Cave iMac.
But then I don't have any Safari plugins (which are known to make Safari buggier than an antheap, apparently) and only run Firefox for web development.

It seems that more and more people are preferring Firefox. With the way things are going in the world of computing, it would seem to me that the browser becomes more and more important and Apple need to get to work on it....maybe they are....

The thing with Safari is it's based on WebKit, which is open source, if I recall correctly. Apple is only really wrapping it all up in a fancy package, but WebKit is used by loads of other apps for their webby interfaces as well. Softpress Freeway uses it for previewing web designs, I believe Camino uses it, and Mail uses it. I even heard the other day that Microsoft were considering it for their next version of Internut Exploder!
I like Firefox, especially the web dev plugins, but I can't get on with it for day-to-day surfing. It's a bit too peeceeish, if you see what I mean.

Although I'll probably regret typing this, I haven't had any problems with it since upgrading.
