Recently I have been unable to use MM or Adium to login to my MSN account. MM tells me I'm not connected to the internet (another case of MS being wrong) and Adium just has the spinning wheel constantly and indefinitely, has anyone got any ideas why this has happened?

Update:
aMSN says that there was an error connecting to the server: connection refused
I read on mac rumors that it could be something to do with the new safari update, but i cant see why.

Does your user account have parental controls enabled? I enabled them on my kid's login accounts, and after a certain Mac OS X update (earlier this year) - there was no way my son could use msn or adium. It even broke some of his access to iTunes store.
Tried for ages to fix it, but I gave up and had to remove the parental controls. I haven't re-tested the scenario recently, I guess I should, as a more recent update may have fixed the bug we had experienced

Check the port number on your adium settings, the port might be blocked at home

how do i do that? I cant find it in the preferences
your message under your username is awesome, i will use it next time someone asks to see my phone!
i have found with amsn that it works when switched to HTTP on port 80, but amsn is a really buggy client, that is SOOO slow!

I just remember seeing it in the prefs for my one, perhaps they got rid of that in a newer version, you might have to dig really deep in the prefs. I haven't heard of amsn, have you tried Messenger for Mac? That's a good client, you can find it on the apple download page, I do like adium though because of the convinience of having gchat, msn and facebook all in one place. I found a cool iphone app called IM+. It's very adium like yet with a beautiful iPhone interface, that's all I can suggest for now

amsn is a "clone" of msn on the pc, except its the slowest buggiest app i have used.
I cant find a that option in the preferences, so i will try harder tonight

I found that if you go into the preferences and double click the account then you can change the connection to HTTP and it works. Very odd, very very odd. Which is good because now I dont have to use that piece of ******* **** (aMSN)

Don't be so certain - MacUser have posted this this morning! Microsoft have a history of "upgrading" their IM service in such a way as to disconnect anyone who doesn't use their client.
