I want to buy a 1Tb hard drive. I'm still a Firewire 800 user, so want that, but recognise I may need USB2 as well. I'd like it to be quiet and above all reliable. What are others using? Any recommendations?
Thanks
Tim

Any of the LaCie triple or quad interface drives will work. I recommend them, but there are other manufacturers with the triple interface stuff now.
Be aware that the USB2 stuff may not be bus-powered, or at least may require the use of two USB ports to provide sufficient juice for the drive. This shouldn't be a problem with the FW drives.

The LaCie D2 range are quieter than the "Porché" designed ones. I am well pleased with mine and I use both types.

I have one of those Lacie D2 Big Disk 1TB external jobbies. I back up stuff to it. It's very quiet but it does need an external power brick. I also plug my FireWire 800 compact flash card reader in to it when I need to take images from my card. Daisy chaining FTW!
