Finally, the BBC has managed to cook up an iPlayer gizmo that will let you download programmes like Windows users have been able to do for over a year now. Huzzah! Good luck with finding the download links, though. They don't make it obvious on the iPlayer home page yet. I would post them here, but (a) I can't remember them, and (b) I want everyone to enjoy the experience of finding them for themselves.

..... and here's a link to the BBC news story about the BBC's Mac / Linux iPlayer: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7787335.stm(the news story includes a comment box at the end of the article to allow you to let the BBC know what you think about the iPlayer &/or their attitude towards non Windows users).

Thanks to the links on here, I manager to get the iPlayer downloaded on to both the iMac and the MacBook Pro - so far it seems to work well.
May I suggest that the more people who download the application, the more support we (as Mac users) are liable to get - so even if you have no intention of using it, download it (you can always uninstall it!)

It's using Adobe Air to provide the bedrock and the DRM. I say well done to the Beeb for not wasting time, effort and my licence fee in trying to create its own solution.

I installed BBC iPlayer Desktop and it does what it says on the tin. But I don't think it's as good as the unofficial iPlayer downloader Will mentioned on the podcast a while ago. This has just seen a new version released and it seems to download much faster and, more usefully, removes all the DRM stuff on the official version.

Has anyone tried iPlayer Downloader since the official Beeb client was launched? Does it still work?

Yes, it does. And they brought out a new version quite recently. I've downloaded loads over Xmas.
