I've been using my iMAC for a year or so - got 2GB RAM and installed windows XP and bootcamp for the legacy stuff and happily switched between the OSX & Winders XP as required taking a couple of mins at a time as it does. Now for work I need to pop in and out of windows more often Anyone experienced installing parallels with XP etc - is it fraught with horror or a simple instal? I've got Snow Leopard and iLife '09 installed already if that makes any difference and Widows XP is a pukka original - not a blagged copy. Cheers "He who dies with the most toys WINS!"

What do you need to use on the iMac have you tried CrossOver or Wine ? I almost downloaded Wine yesterday but then stopped because I was concerned about .exe virus files now being able to open on my Mac.... Is this possible?

I though about them but as emulators they don't run everything Windowsy and could slow it all down maybe?
On winders I use ACT, Outlook etc for the Work Stuff - I'd like to keep all the data for mac and windies on one drive (and a backup) and I'd like to flick between OS without restarting everytime I want to use Iphoto , Mac Mail, Photoshop etc... I just don't know if Parallels (or there's another on MJWAre or somesuch) enables you to do this ie sort of merge the installed light side (MAC) with the installed Dark Side (Gates the Git!)
It's not just work stuff of course theres AVS Converters, Activesync and old legacy stuff I like to use too. I just like the mac way of doing things and want to break the Bill Gatres grip on the world.

I would look at VMware or Parallels. I use crossover for a lot of things and its slowed down and runs a lot of things pretty well.

Have installed the free trial of VMWare - straight on no problems and it seems to work! 30 days to try it out now. So far so good doesn't SEEM to slow things down at all, we'll see. He who dies with the most toys WINS!

No as its contained within its package Yay! I'm downloading it again now. What kind of Windows apps can I use? All of them? So could I technically install Office for Windows and it would work? What about games?

I want to play Serious Sam: The First/Second Encounter. These games are from 2001 and 2003. I tried to istall the first one but it said that it couldn't play it without the disc in the drive, evenwhen it was in the drive, and also, I reinstalled it fully and selected the option that doesn't require the disk, and it still had the same error. Even fake Windows sucks.

You could try a cider port if your on an Intel www.youtube.com/watch?v=w53tt8QJ95w You can google for pre-packaged cider ports if you like, sometimes someone has done it for you.

Dear All I gotta say that VMW works brilliantly! You can play games run any Windies programs and flit about 'tween OSX and Winders with impunity. Full speed. I'm running the 30 day trial still but am more than happy with it and will perform open wallet surgery to pay for it later today. What more could I say?
