Greetings from sunny Swanage!
I said in British Mac 103 that 104 might be a week late as I was off on holiday, but in the end I decided that holidays are too short and extended mine by a week!
So British Mac 104 will be out Friday the 16th.
Any contributions as always very welcome via email telegram@britishmac.com.
I'm sitting here with a glass of wine outside my tent with the sun beating down and typing this on my birthday present; an iPad. I have to say it's ace, last night we had it lying flat on an camp chair playing Backgammon ( I wonder if the origin of the name comes from the playing board made from pig skin? ), then it came a TV for little lad to watch Zingzillers, and now and email tablet! Totally brilliant, and if any review you read says otherwise, they're mad!

I look forward to the weeks where Mac applications are covered because I don't have an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad... iMac and iPod Video 1G

^That isn't to say I dn't want one. I think we've discussed this before... You are fine with your old Nokia, and I am technically fine with my Samsung, but I still want one.

Sure I want one. Whether I need one is another matter altogether!
I think we're trying to say to Will that while it's nice to hear about such things, as they are Apple stuff, folk who don't already own one, or are planning on getting one, or simply are vaguely interested in hearing about such things, will quickly turn off and go elsewhere.
The podcast title says it all, really. It's not British iGadget. It's British Mac.

While I entirely agree that British Mac should be primarily about Mac's in particular, surely one of the attractions of BM is the eccentric mixture including news of the newest gadgetry? - not forgetting the jokes and snippets of music.

surely one of the attractions of BM is the eccentric mixture including news of the newest gadgetry I agree. I follow a fair number of photography podcasts and blogs. I've become increasingly fed up with them because - since the iPad launch particularly, and now again with iPhone 4 - they've become obsessed with telling me about whichever cool new app they've developed. Nice. Now get back to the photography. I'll call you when I get an iPhone/iPad/iPod touch so I can play with your cool new app to calculate depth of field or hyperfocal distance. I want to learn about those things from you, not from an app I can't run. Rant over. =o)

But I didn't think you even listened to British Mac Heather? I have said that, it's true. But that doesn't stop me trying again.

I do agree though, I would like to feature more Mac OSX apps, I suppose there's a few points to make in regard to Mac apps v iOS (by which I mean iPhone/iPad/iTouch) apps.
i, I find it much easier to discover new apps via the app store for iOS, I wish they would be make one for OS X in the app store in iTunes. I know there's one via Apple site etc but it's just not the same, and you have to go outside of the iTunes portal to get them.
ii, iOS apps are so much cheaper typically 59p to the £5.00 range as apposed to OSX which I would say typical cost about £10 to £30. I realise most software vendors are happy to provide NFR copies but that involves an extra step. Now I'm full time I should make more of an effort in that direction.
iii, My Mac is PPC so many of the brand new apps are unable to run on my tired (but still beautiful) old Mac.
iv, I'm a bit of a veteran Mac user and stuck in my ways with my old and trusted apps, again something I can change with a new Intel Mac (coming soon) and more time.
and finally v, that's it actually, rather got carried away with 'v', besides it made my head hurt thinking of all these Roman numerals!
Off to hotel bar for a cool beer!!

If I can add my two pennies worth. Of course it's a Mac podcast and we do try to feature stuff that remains true to those roots.
However, the computing landscape is changing very rapidly at the moment. What we are seeing is an industry wide shift away from the deskbound lump of metal/plastic (I include laptops in this) and a move to mobile devices.
There's no getting away from the fact that the most exciting developments are currently happening in that space. We can't invent Mac news - the truth is that Apple simply haven't announced anything exciting for the Mac platform in quite some time. The hardware gets incrementally faster but there have been few big announcements.
I am working on a small feature about Aperture 3 vs Lightroom 3 but that's not "core Mac" stuff either. The fact is there is a tremendous amount of crossover with all these tech related topics. If we just ignore them, then British Mac will become like all those Mac magazines that perpetually tell you 50 Ways to revolutionise your world with iLife.
If there is something you'd like to hear about in the podcast please do let Will know. Specific ideas are more helpful though; "Do more old school Mac stuff" is a bit like saying, "Drive south" when someone asks you how to find the theatre.
