I'm starting to get sick of my Mighty Mouse. Every day the scroll ball doesn't work and I have to un-stick it for whatever reason. On the Apple site it says to rub the ball with a wet cloth then roll it on a clean, dry surface. This fixes it, so there must be something clogging up the sensors for movement. Is there a way to open the Mighty Mouse? I can't see any screws or anything, typical of Apple... Maybe if I could attack it with an air can it would dislodge some gunk. So I want to know: How much better is the Magic Mouse? How good is it for battery-efficiency? Does it work well?

I think the magic mouse works well, certainly none of the tracking ball problems, there isn't one. Scrolling etc., by sliding fingers over the top is easy and effective. Battery life is a bit problematical, I have had to replace them a couple of times in the last 6 months but maybe that was due to using cheapo batteries. Certainly I have changed them more frequently than in my old Logitech cordless mouse. The magic mouse has also been replaced once under the warranty because it was not responding correctly.

My mighty mouse didn't last too long at all before I gave up with it. I was using a cheapie wired optical mouse for ages after that (less than £4 off ebay if I remember correctly). Then I got a magic mouse which was great, today I got the magic touchpad thing which is even better. Expensive I know but I think it is well worth the money.

The Magic Mouse looks brilliant, but my main concern is the battery life. I've heard it will last around 2 weeks using brand new duracells in the worst case. They don't do a wired Magic Mouse do they?

My mac is on all day every day and in use for much of the time, can't remember when the magic mouse was released but I got it soon after and I have only put 3 sets of batteries in it since then, so much more than 2 weeks per set, so I don't think it's that bad.

I'm using 2200 mAh rechargeable batteries (got them from Boots) in my Magic Mouse, so when the level falls to 40 % I stick two more batteries in the charger, that way I keep it going and they seem to last longer in the mouse too.

Same for me, so battery life is definitely measured in months, not weeks. I never turn my mouse off either. Same experience with the wireless keyboard.

I should have stated that I never turn off the iMac or the magic mouse.

A further though concerning Magic Mouse battery life. My iMac is on all day every day, when I was having a mouse problem I asked Apple support about turning it off and was given the impression that it "sleeps" when not in use, in any event their advice was to leave it on. Sorry I cannot be more precise but the batteries certainly last for several months. On the whole I am very happy with mine, it came with my iMac. I certainly would not like to go back to a wired mouse and the swiping action is easy and useful.

Well, just to chime in with some loving for ye olde mighty mouse I bought mine when they originally came out, and have not had a single problem with it(so far!). Give it a quick wipe every few months, and its fine. Recently I have got another machine and so bought a second hand mighty(£12.99 at cex atm) which didn't scroll left very well. Decided to open it up... Turns out its pretty simple, there's not a lot to it. You just have to prise off the 2 rings at the bottom - the inner ring is just clipped on, the outer one you have to crack the glue - about 8 splodges holding it on. I find if you use your finger nail or a loyalty card and just ease it round in the gap starting by either squeeze buttons. Managed to get mine off in one piece quite easily. The bottom of the mouse is on a hinge with the top, so you just need to gently pull them apart. There's 2 cables connecting top and bottom - just disconnect them. You then have 3 philips screws to take the scroll ball part off and ya there. Just reverse the process to put it back together, plus use some super glue on the ring. Simple as that! One of meh friends wants his opening up, so if I get the chance i'll take some pics

I've gone through about 4 Might Mouses (mice?) All of them had stuck balls. So I got the Magic mouse. It doesn't need to replace batteries that much.I've had it since it came out and changed batteries probably twice.
