I was in PC World today and tried out the Magic Mouse. I liked it, but there is one thing which will be a deal breaker for me.
Does it have Exposé buttons on the sides? I was squeezing it and also went into the system preferences and tried to set it up but apparently the only way to do Exposé is a keyboard shortcut (or longcut, really). I use Exposé hundreds of times every day and don't think I could cope without it now (on the mouse). It would be like going back to a mouse with a trackball instead of optical. So... Does it?

Interesting point. Yet anther example of where Apple expect you to move on. The new keyboards have an Exposé button on the F3 key so they're thinking that's no hassle….. aah, the age of consumerism….

Thanks for the links. The second one looks the most useful. I can't understand why this has happened. I use middle/ball click to get the Dashboard up and squeeze it for Exposé. I thought these were two main features of OS X. Yeah, my keyboard has an Exposé button, but I need it on the mouse itself. I might just get a Logitech mouse instead. That way it's both cheaper and the scroll wheel/ball won't constantly stop working. Poor show, Apple. Lately I think you have been pretty lazy and I can start to see why so many people dislike you.

Poor show, Apple. Lately I think you have been pretty lazy and I can start to see why so many people dislike you. Well maybe. It depends on your circumstance. Do the mice that ship with other computers suit everyone's need? Apple have to ship their desktop machines with some kind of mouse. Whatever they ship will suit some people more than others. Every design of mouse ever made is a compromise. For me the new mouse looks ideal for my work computer. I often have oil on my hands so no moving parts are a must. I don't need Expose so I won't miss that feature. I don't think Apple are being lazy, they are trying to innovate. This often leads to some discussion and on occasion a little controversy.

^ I see what you mean, but I don't think they should just get rid of the functionality altogether. Clicking the ball and squeezing the sides for Dashboard and Exposé are used dozens of times daily by me (and I'm sure millions of others, too) and I've fond that when using other computers/mice I really miss it even in such a short time as messing about with the new iMacs in PC world yesterday. I'm just saying the option should be there, even if it's disabled by default.

I am using my favourite mouse - an Apple ADB II mouse that came with my PowerMac 8600. It is connected to the Apple Extended Keyboard II with which it has always been twinned. They are, I admit, both beige - but apart from that I don't think Apple have ever made better. They both have solid definite clicks. They are still working after 13 years. Admittedly, I supplement the mouse with a graphics tablet, but the combination does all I need. Mrs Stomps has a bluetooth mighty mouse which drives us both mad, forever losing connection, eating batteries and doing unexpected things if you put your thumb in the wrong (or right) place. The ADB mouse just works.

Can't say I've had problems with connection loss, but I have a stock of freshly charged rechargeables to feed mine. As to unexpected things, I suggest a trip to the preferences for the mouse to turn off the various buttons to suit. While the curvy ADB mouse was probably the best I've ever used, it still suffers from dirty ball syndrome. I do not miss cleaning mouse balls, if you'll pardon the expression.

A wireless mighty mouse, maybe. But definitely not an ADB mouse.
