I'm currently paying £10 per month to O2 to 'tether' my laptop to my iPhone. I only use it about once a month and am nowhere near my allowance. I am also looking to buy an iPad this month. What are folks' experiences of the Huawei 585 "MiFi" which is available on PAYG from 3? I have read that some folk have had problems getting it set up on a Mac. If you are on PAYG does the data allowance expire after a month?

Hi
I had the previous version and have just got the new one, works great no set up problems, the 585 uses a HTML based interface so no need to install software on your computer to change it's settings etc. I find that you get much better 3G coverage with 3 compared to O2.

The West Coast Mainline is pretty much a dead zone on O2. My daughter has a 3 phone and seems to get much better 3G coverage than I do. And after six months the MiFi will have paid for itself. I've given O2 notice, so when the tethering contract runs out at the end of the month, I'll get one. Tim

When in the UK I use a 3 MiFi unit and have no issues running Mac > iPhone > PS3 all at the same time, in fact you can run up to five peripherals at once, this is for 5/6GB on a £15 a month rolling contract. I personally feel that 3 has good coverage now and believe it was voted 2010 best iPhone network supplier, but don`t quote me on that.

Well, I've just had my first London trip since getting the 3 MiFi and I am sorry to report that the 3 3G signal on the West Coast Mainline is almost as bad and unreliable as O2's was. I am seriously wondering if Virgin deliberately interfere with the signal in order to sell you their overpriced Wifi.

I have my normal phone on 3. It's pretty bad. No signal in my own house. But, I phoned them up (from the landline) and complained, they gave me £5 that month's bill. I keep getting texts saying they are trying to resolve the issue but nothing has happened yet. I get so little signal at home that my phone doesn't even know what time zone it's in. (Mind, that is just as likely to be a flaw in the Android OS)
