My philosophy:
Blackberries look professional and look like they do a lot. iPhones are a fashion item, and are very good. Android is for nerds. Edit: And nobody uses Windows Phone. People who do are probably masochists.
If you aren't a nerd and can't afford an iPhone, you will probably get a Blackberry.
Pretty simple. Only nerds care about Android, or think it's the best. Regular people (and girls) don't care about 'open source' or 'flash' or 'jailbreaking'. Only nerds take advantage of these things and often it goes against the company image. For example, now I see Android as a nerd's OS because t is 'open source' and everyone on the internet says it is superior, when it really isn't.

Or….
Blackberry = Take me seriously
iPhone = I have style
Android = I'm a bloke (look at my 7 inch screen and read my specs.)
Windows = I like Nokia phones and have had them for years.
Symbian = I know nothing about phones

All in all, people will always moan about Apple on the Internet. That's the way it is. All the cool kids are doing it. People who put themselves through misery by buying a HTC just because they like to go on the internet forums and say how awful Apple is are only annoying themselves. Everyone knows that the iPhone is the best phone for non-nerds who want an up to date model. They want to be able to play games, listen to their music and go on YouTube and Facebook. They probably already own an iPod, so an iPhone is the perfect next step.
My experience with Android wasn't really a good one. It was good as an internet browsing device over WiFi*, but as a phone it was nothing against even the 1G iPhone.
*I say this because I am a bit of a nerd. Most people won't care about using it over WiFi, Flash or any other little things like that. I wanted to see how much it could handle before I had to manually remove the battery because it had crashed.

Android = I'm a bloke (look at my 7 inch screen and read my specs.) I don't fully agree with this either... My old Desire was atrocious in the specs department, and was still considered one of the best Android phones. It only had 256MB internal memory. Apps can't be installed to the memory card, so at any time you can only have 256MB worth of apps. About 100MB is taken up by undeletable apps HTC and Google put there.
