See the specs and videos here: www.apple.com/uk/ipad/The Smart Case thingy looks amazing! :-) Faster, thinner, lighter, with cameras & giro, GarageBand, iMovie, etc. Tempted?

I'm surprised that there's no support for a thunderbolt dock connection to the new iPad.

I'm surprised that there's no support for a thunderbolt dock connection to the new iPad. I expect that in time there will be an adaptor. At the moment though an iPad can't hold enormous amounts of data so it is not too much of an issue.

Although a cool gadget, I still fail to se a reason to buy one.
I know loads of people like them, and I like to play with them, but I can't think of uses for it in my everyday life. A £400 netbook laptop would be infinitely more useful (despite having to run Windows) or I could get a regular MacBook.

... or I could get a regular MacBook. You really need to start thinking in terms of and, not or. ;-) Alan.

It's only an iPad 1.5, isn't it? Good hardware improvements, but nothing significant in the software. Same screen, needs further development to be a personal notepad. There'll be another one in less than a year's time, I reckon.

There'll be another one in less than a year's time, I reckon. :-) I remember that some said the iPad1 was " only" a big iPod Touch too. Nonetheless I've had 10 months of totally pleasurable usage out of mine. I'm glad I didn't wait for the improved iPad2. I will soon buy an iPad2 though. Then I expect to get around another 10 months use out of that before the yet further improved iPad3 arrives. The difference in price between selling last year's model and buying this year's model can be considered to be a sort of "rental" for having full use of the most up-to-date version of the very best gadget I've ever owned. With a product as game-changing as the iPad, I think it's a mistake to postpone a purchase on the basis that an even better one will be available in a few months time. That's a few months where you get none of the pleasure. Alan.

I agree Alan,
My iPad1 is in constant daily use. Each new App that appears attractive is an exciting new interest. For sheer portability coupled with ease of use the iPad is unbeatable. Apart from the obvious things like checking/replying to emails I find it so useful as an instant reference tool. Then reading eBooks in bed (apart from the weight!) is another pleasure, not to mention watching TV streamed from my iMac using EyeTV and recently Al Jazeera live via the internet.
I shouldn't forget Will's video podcast either. When does the next episode appear?
For certain tasks I wouldn't be without my iMac but of the two I think the iPad is used the most.
The iPad2 is definitely going to be added to my wish list. Meanwhile I am looking forward to the upgrade for the iPad operating system coming out later this month.
