Just thought I'd share my current project with you. It's an iPhone application which controls my heating system. Screen shot attached. If you're interested I can give you an overview of how it works. (It ended up being quite complicated!) Attachments:

Sounds interesting!
I am starting out in iPhone programming and am finding I have an awful lot to learn.
I have started programming an app to act as a basic calculator for working out best value of tinned/bottled products at the supermarket/off-licence.

Ha! Brilliant. Tesco do this on the online shop (not sure if they do it in store), but sometimes they use different units, so not easy to compare.

Do they, I havent seen that.
But that is exactly why i wanted to make this app, Supermarkets etc have so many confusing offers, it is difficult to decide which is best, my app tells you to the nearest tenth of a penny.

Well, only in that they put price per 100g, and the like, next to the cost of the product. There isn't a comparison function. Getting slightly off-topic I do like the new feature in the same online Tesco store that now shows you when you're missing a special offer (e.g. when you've only got 2 items in the basket when there's a 3 for 2 offer on). V good.

Absolutely agree with Will's comments re iPhone programming.
Apple have made it very accessible and the internet is a great resource for learning Xcode.
I particularly like the Interface Builder aspect of Xcode, makes it much easier to design your app by adding the objects directly rather than coding each one.
I have found many programmers through various forums to be more than helpful, when you are stuck on a particular piece of code.
All in all I would recommend anyone having a go.
By the way the app has changed so much since the last screenshot and I am planning to release it on the App Store as a free (ad-supported) app as soon as I can scrape the £60 together. I am also planning a pro version but that is very much work in progress.
Mike, I though i had said this is an earlier post, but i am very interested in hearing more about your app and maybe take a sneaky look at some of your code.

I still find it very hard getting my head around object oriented programming, delegates, first responders etc. I'm much more comfortable with the procedural stuff. So my code is far from perfect - I'm sure there are still memory leaks, for instance.
I've written up what I've done in the form of a white paper. Will send you a copy.

I have submitted my app to Apple and it has been approved, it is now available for download. The Valuator (iTunes Link)I would be most grateful if people could find a minute to download, hopefully use it and maybe leave a (good) review. The app is free to download

Downloaded, Installed and Reviewed! - Great free app. I also do iPhone Development, and have two projects that are close to release. I don't know if there's anyone else on this forum my age (taking GCSE maths), but you probably know someone who is - I've built an app that does (relatively) complex maths functions for you (sequences, equations etc). Screens here. - It basically does your homework for you! A free app I'm working on (for my local airfield!): ScreensI think we should start an iPhone Programming sub-forum on the PCC! Alex

Wow that airfield app looks really good Alex. And the Maths one too. Alas I did my GCE (as opposed to GCSE) some time ago, but certainly looks useful for the "calculator" exam.

Hey Alex, I like your iCompton app -- I've been thinking about doing something vaguely similar for my local (Enstone, EGTN). Are you working on a PPL? (I presume you don't already have one if you're working on GCSEs) Funnily enough, I've been drinking coffee from an old and somewhat chipped Compton Abbas mug all day.
BTW, if you find yourself in the area, do drop in (not too literally) for a coffee & cake. I tend to hang around the airfield most Saturday afternoons. You can see the progress on the new Spitfire kit... lol
