It's time to upgrade my white 20" iMac (OK, maybe it's really time when to breaks but I want to upgrade) and as I was thinking through the options I realised that this may be the last Mac I ever buy! With the exception of a hardware failure (spinning hard disk most likely) and unless I get into high end video production (very, very unlikely) what more processing power will I ever really need? Any other advances are likely to be in software and maybe man-machine interfaces. I won't need anything faster than Thunderbolt so it makes me think extra hard. If this is going to be my last Mac (until it breaks) I should get it right. …and then I feel a little sad that we're sort of at the end of an era as another one starts… funny where your mind goes when you haven't been drinking for a few days

I have often had the idea that this will be my last Mac. Each time I have asked "what more could I ever want?". At some time this will be true I suppose but has that time arrived now? I gaze into my string ball (cat's don't do crystal) and I see SSD drives Faster WiFi Bigger screens. Better screens Backlit keyboards Built in television Voice recognition (that works) AI 3D gaming Built in "Kinect" type technology And more… Now I may be wrong, but I suspect that we have not reached the end of the Mac evolution just yet.

Technology is evolving so fast, even if we don't get anything 'new', it' still going to get faster... and faster, and in a few years the latest mac will be outdated.
