At the last Christmas bash we were talking in the pub. In discussion I took the position that Macs were pretty good value. Ofter being cheaper than an equivilant PC. This rather good review of the new Mac pro seems to support the position that I was taking. www.anandtech.com/show/7603/mac-pro-review-late-2013

Mac's are good value because they are reassuringly expensive ... meaning that you'll make the current one last as long as you can before making the investment in the next one!
I jest, but I think there's an element of truth there.

I jest, but I think there's an element of truth there. More than an element of truth. However I draw a distinction between costing a lot and being expensive. Sure they cost a lot, but they are not expensive. Comparing like for like you are getting an inexpensive (but not cheap) computer.

Part of the appeal of a good Mac is that it lasts for years. My iMac is a 2011 model which I bought after a near lightning strike destroyed almost everything electrical in the house. It's still going strong, I have absolutely no need for a replacement.
