If you're comfortable with simple Unix command-line interaction within Terminal, then you might be interested in using the quite brilliant "get_iplayer" script. linuxcentre.net/?page_id=6linuxcentre.net/get_iplayer/It's well worth getting to grips with it. I've used it to download many superb BBC TV programmes for playing on my iPod and Apple TV. It supports Listen Again downloads of BBC radio programmes too, but I've not managed to get that to work yet. There are many ways to use it, but I do it like this. To install it::::I created a folder on my Desktop called __GET_IPLAYER_STUFF Then I downloaded the get_iplayer script into that folder. To use it:::: I start Terminal, then type $ cd Desktop/__GET_IPLAYER_STUFF(so now I'm in that folder) Then I type $ ./get_iplayer --terse(this gives a neat concise listing of all the available programmes, and each has a unique number. I note the number of the programme I'm interested in (let's say it is 321)) Then I type $ ./get_iplayer --get 321(and it dutifully downloads the programme as a .mov quicktime file) Then just watch it on your Mac, and/or drag it into iTunes and convert/sync to whatever device you like. Brilliant, eh? Enjoy. :-) Alan. PS To see all of its flexibility (including searching by channel, genre, etc.) , look at the help by typing $ ./get_iplayer -h

as a long time user of Sinclair Basic and DOS i find this style of app nostalgic. but that said a GUI shouldn't be too hard to put together for something like this but as it is its completely OS independent

Hmm, just grabbed an episode of Merlin and I have to say that the quality isn't great, it's quite blocky and pixelated in places where there's fast movement. I'd imagine it's OK to watch on an iPhone or iPod touch but I don't think I'd want to stream these to my big telly.

works fine except now i have to navigate through the bbc iplayer pages instead of getting a nice big list. although after watching some of the videos it looks like someone at the bbc just records them straight off the telly. Promos and all unlike the web-based iplayer which looks very professional and taken from source material

Oh that's good, there was an older version of that which stopped working, I see it's been fixed.

Just a quick note to say that I am using this now and I really rate it. I must add it to my shareware top choice.

I see from the other place that the Beeb have just announced that they will finally be supporting downloads for Macs "later this year" - they are switching the iPlayer to Adobe's "Air" platform in order to make one app which will work on Mac, Windows or Linux. Sadly, if previous experience is anything to go by, this will break iPlayerDownloader. Whilst I don't want to download much - streaming works perfectly well for me at home - I do occasionally want to keep a programme (a couple of weeks ago they showed I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue from the Lowry, recorded just before Humph died. I was in the audience and was/ am a huge Humph fan). It is also useful to be able to record something onto my laptop and watch it away from home. Whilst I'll be able to do the former with iPlayer, I won't be able to do the latter. Which is daft actually since I can do just that using my HD DVD recorder - as long as I know about it in advance.
