Good evening my furry friends, I have got an iPod Touch for Christmas... Yay!!! But on my WiFi it won't recognize my location, I thought it was done by the WiFi router it is connected to, but at all my friend's houses the location thing works fine, is there a way I can tell my iPod Touch that my router is 'here' on a map Any advice?

I am no expert on these things but I think that the WiFi location on the iPod Touch works only if the local WiFi beacons have been mapped. In the USA SkyHook were the company that did this. They drove round (flew round?) and mapped the WiFi that they detected. If your WiFi was not turned on when they drove by then it was not added to the map. In cities this gives a very accurate location system but in the suburbs it is much less accurate or does not work at all. The iPhone uses this method AND triangulation from cell towers. This is know as assisted GPS. Also on the iPhone is true GPS that uses satellites for location. If your iPod suddenly knows that you are at home then you will know that your street has been added to the map. Till then I think you are out of luck. Cat

Hmm... My WiFi is relatively new, that's probably why then, is there a way you can "submit" your WiFi to their database, or just tell my iPod where it is?
I know the answer is almost definitely no!

Well actually Mr.Cat, I just did a google search, and there is a page on SkyHooks website, where you enter your postcode, MAC adress and your email, and it will submit it to their database. I will post the URL when I get back to my mac.

Have submitted my routers MAC adress to the skyhook database months ago when i was having issues with location based apps on my first gen iphone and i work very well. Did take about a day for skyhook to get it into their database.

Hmmmm... It's been three days and still not working, SkyHook did say in their e - mail that it can take up to a few weeks though, are you sure that it only took a day for you?
