My iPod is poorly. The headphone jack is not working. It is out of warranty and the local Apple reseller won't fix it. I have sent it off to some place that advertises on the internet. I hope they get my baby home to me soon. I miss my podcasts.

Which iPod have you got, Mr Cat? Peter. The 30Gig 5th gen one. It was sometimes called the iPod Video. Mine was black. I consume a LOT of podcasts with it. Video ones too. I miss her.

When I bought my first iPod, I persuaded my wife that by putting all our music onto it we would have a permanent backup of everything we own. That was how we justified the cost. That one died after less than three years. I bought her a U2 special edition. That one - which she hardly used - died after only 2 years. I know Mr Cat's problems are not hard drive related, but I do wonder about the build quality of some of the hard drive iPod models. Folk with solid state models seem to have far fewer problems.

That is not a cheap repair. Currently the place I sent mine to charge £75 to replace a 30Gig drive on that model. Moving parts in a music player is never the best of ideas. As solid state drives get cheaper then I am sure that is the way Apple will go.
