Welcome Bill. What got you into Macs - not many finance bods are Apple fans in my experience

Good evening, well I'm Adam, 19 year old photographer and editor in the cold Midlands. I've owned a Mac since June 09 (after 8 years of being a Windows fan...), owning a MacBook (Early 2009) first (which I still own), and I recently bought a brand new 27" iMac, which is running at full spec! Other Apple things I own are the iPod Touch (2nd gen 16gb), a 1TB Time Capsule, and an AirPort Extreme. Windows stuff I own, only 1 thing which is my good ol' Asus F5 Entertainment System, running Windows 7 Ultimate. Welcome to you, are you the same Adam parton that recently asked a question on the MacFormat Podcast? The reason I ask is that I know an Adam Parton in the West Midlands (Codsall, Wolverhampton) to be precise, and I contacted him thinking it might have been him asking the question, but i'm guessing not. I am that Adam who asked the question on the MacFormat Podcast yeah, and no I'm not in Wolverhampton, I'm in Wednesbury which is relatively near it. Anyways guys, sorry I ain't been active at all, lost track of British Mac after a reboot and other things, but I'm sure to be returning now & then!

A Brit in Clogland

My name is Dave, a Brit exiled to Clogland for the last 8 years. I have been using PCs professionally since the arrival of an original IBM model, running Lotus 123 version 1A, in my office in 1984 and my first home PC appeared in 1994. The presence of two children made access to the home PCs increasingly difficult so in 2008 I bought a Mac Mini (2.0ghz Core 2 Duo) for me to use, which also gave me chance to learn something new.
The Mac is located in my home office. It is connected via an Elgato EyeTV 310 to a satellite dish which enables me to receive UK TV & radio broadcast by FreeSat. I also use iPhoto and iTunes a lot. An AppleTV allows me to access all of this from the lounge. The first couple of weeks were a bit confusing but I now switch easily between OSX (home) and Windows (work).
My latest toy is an iPhone 3GS. I love most things about it but I miss handwriting recognition and tabs of my old Palms. Maybe iPhone OS 4.0 will fill those gaps.

Hello,
I'm Gill - the token bird? - a new convert to Mac having had good experiences with ipods over the years (an original, then a nano, now ipod touch). I took the plunge last year & invested in a new 17" MacBook Pro (entirely for business reasons, Mr Taxman. Honestly).
I'm really loving discovering all the great things it can do: films, music, photography, etc - though I'm still struggling a bit to work around not having Excel (I'm a spreadsheet geek). I know I could use bootcamp but I'm trying to keep the mac to non-windows software. I'm just about getting by with Numbers and Open Office.
I also love your podcast, it's not too scary for beginners and contains loads of useful stuff. Thanks to Will & everyone who takes the time to put it together.
And on a non-Mac topic, Will, I agree that Jeremy Brett is the best TV/film Holmes but I think he is edged out overall by the BBC Radio version with Clive Merrison & Michael Williams/Andrew Sachs. They are brilliant.
Oh, and if you ever revive the beer sampling, I'd recommend Innis & Gunn. Yum.
Cheers, Gill

Hello I am Luke living in the Lake District but originally from Dubai, UAE. I am doing a degree in Computing and it is my intention to specialise in app development for mobile devices. I have been using a Mac since 2006 thanks to a new job in Music where everybody had a Mac and I thought I would try one. I bought the 1st gen MBP with only 1.83Ghz CPU and 512Mb RAM! That was littered with mechanical problems and it was replaced with the black Macbook I am currently using (2.0Ghz, 2.0Gb RAM). I also have a iPhone 3G (early 2G adopter as well) and an 8Gb 3rd gen iPod nano.
I hook the MacBook up to a 24" Samsung screen which is really great when I find the MacBook screen a little small. I also use a 1TB Western Digital 'Elements' HDD. I'm also a film nut, music lover and ride a motorcycle (1993 Honda Fireblade).
I found the podcast by searching for 'Withnail' and stumbled across the podcast. I admire Will's disorganised yet informed style, it is much more informal and enjoyable than something straight and boring.
Thank you,
Luke

Hi, I've already intro'd myself but (and how sad is this...) I just heard Will read it out on the podcast (yes, I'm behind in a huge way on my podcast consumption) and it brought a very pleasant smile to my face! Cheers mate. Made me feel all warm n fuzzy....
Incidentally....did I miss something? Where's Dave gone since the happy coupling?

Hi Adam I owe you an apology as it was me that suggested you were spam. You're clearly not. In my own defence, this place is a refreshingly calm and friendly place and I am perhaps a bit overzealous in trying to protect it. Other forums have become victims to aggressive flame wars and I would hate to see that here. But I was wrong in your case, so please accept both my apology and my belated welcome
