Well what can I say? How my mindless musings could have influenced you I don't know. I am sure though that you won't regret your purchase. The MBA is an awesome piece of kit. BTW. Just followed the link in your sig. It is a really nice site you have there.

Some time ago I sold my 13" MacBook and bought an iPad. I love the iPad but do rather miss the MacBook in some respects. All of these glowing reports about the new MacBook Air have really got me thinking. Cost is a factor so I am considering saving a bit by getting an Apple refurbished one. Here comes the dilemma which one of the four models should I buy?
I got my hands on them in the Covent Garden Apple store some time ago and think the 11 inch screen would be OK, but how much drive memory? I tend to save most things away from my iMac either using an external hard drive, Dropbox, Google or even MobileMe.
I have no experience of the refurbished offerings, any comments?
Final question, when is the 'new' MacBook Air likely to be upgraded?
Many thanks.

I went for 1.6Ghz 11" with 4Gb and 128Gb, though was lucky enough to get University discount courtesy of my wife who is currently doing a prescribing course. Performance on this is excellent and compares more than favourably to my 4Gb RAM 2.4Ghz iMac. I currently have over 90Gb free on the hard disk and suspect I wont get near filling it, mainly due to fact that all my content is on the iMac at home.
I dont expect an upgrade to latest Air any time soon though did see some rumours about SandyBridge upgrades applying to Air very soon, but really think this will be more relevant to the forthcoming MacBook Pro upgrades.
I have never used the Apple Refurbished stock before but as it would happen have just read an article by someone who swears by it and has bought a number of new Mac/ipods from refurbished stock with no issues. Apparently they are shipped in as new condition and are thoroughly checked beforehand.
I can say that whilst i loved the iPad I have no regrets about selling the iPad to fund my Air !

All of these glowing reports about the new MacBook Air have really got me thinking. Cost is a factor so I am considering saving a bit by getting an Apple refurbished one. Here comes the dilemma which one of the four models should I buy? What to buy depends on what you are going to do with it. I got my hands on them in the Covent Garden Apple store some time ago and think the 11 inch screen would be OK, but how much drive memory? I tend to save most things away from my iMac either using an external hard drive, Dropbox, Google or even MobileMe. It sounds like you don't need the extra, but I would advise you to go for it anyway. I have the 128GB model, I am not a heavy user and like you tend to store most of my stuff externally. Even so I have used about 70Gb of storage. If you can stretch to the extra £150 I would. I have no experience of the refurbished offerings, any comments? Nearly everyone says they are brilliant. It is my preferred way to buy kit. Only the MBA seduced me into paying full price. Final question, when is the 'new' MacBook Air likely to be upgraded? Many thanks. Normally a year after launch. So probably next October. M. le Chat

Thanks chaps!
You have given me more food for thought. Just one more question, is it possible to use an SD card as external storage with the MacBook Air?

Yes, AirStash does sound very useful, I wonder when it will be available in the UK?
This has got me thinking again about PogoPlug I see that they now have a WiFi version (PogoPlug Pro) £99 from Amazon and about £90 from Pixmania.com. Is anyone here using it? I am thinking initially of using this with my iPad and later with the MacBook Air.

Since hearing Mr Cat's musings (mewings?) about his new Macbook Air I have been mulling over getting one and have finally just bought a refurbished 11" 64GB model from the UK Apple store. I think I saved about £130 over the new price and it is a wonderful machine. So an extra saucer of cream for Mr Cat and, no doubt, fun and games for me as I set up file sharing with my iMac.
