Just a quick note about a possible issue caused by the 10.6.8 update. My iMac refused to connect to my wireless router last night and Airport kept assigning itself very strange IP addresses. Eventually I tried an ethernet connection and it worked fine. This seemed a bit random as it had been working on the previous day. I checked the Apple support forums and there are quite a few people complaining of very similar issues happening after the 10.6.8 update. Some had lost ethernet connection and others were no longer able to connect wirelessly to audio devices. The odd thing is that many report that the issues occur randomly, fix themselves and then occur again. If you experience anything like this there does not appear to be a fix currently but at least you know you are not alone In the good news though, Apple having added TRIM to the SSDs on Macbook Airs means that files I delete on my 64GB 11" Air will actually gain me some space. I can recommend Monolingual which I run after each upgrade and application install; although I have to admit I can only summon up the courage to delete unused language files and do not dare touch anything else

There seems to be some advice that links this with the OS firewall. Try turning it off, re-starting your machine, then turning it back on again

Thanks for the advice unfortunately that made no difference so I am back on ethernet again. This is not too much of an issue as I sit next to the router! I also downloaded the 10.6.8 combi and installed that in safe mode but, again, it made no difference. I will continue to monitor the Apple support forums and let this forum know if I have any luck with any of the suggested fixes. In the meantime I have a Macbook Air which I am not sure whether to fire up or not as it is also on 10.6.8

Just noticed that Ewen Rankin of BagelTech has tweeted that he is having to re-install 10.6.7 this morning because 10.6.8 has screwed up his Mac.
I was hoping not to have to follow this route but 'needs must when the devil vomits in your breakfast' (Blackadder).

I'm getting occasional 'blue screens' for a few seconds and the machine is definitely slower since 10.6.8. I need to upgrade machine anyway so will eek it out till then. Otherwise it's a full rebuild….

Sorry to read about your machine and there's me about to pass on the news that mine seems to be working now. I decided to grit my teeth and drag my son away from the internet whilst I switched off the router. After switching it back on, having deprived my child of his connection for at least 30 seconds (I know they will be sending Social Services round next) Airport connected my iMac to the web. I don't know if this will last, especially as many of the reports show faults occurring quite randomly, but at least it is there now.
I wish you the best of luck with your machine Beerbum - it might be worthwhile checking the Apple support forums.

Thanks nedseagoon and glad to hear you've made progress. I had a strange experience in that I decided to reinstall SL which went fine but when I tried the combi update to 10.6.8 it got stuck… and people say that the combi updates are more reliable than increments… anyway, rebooted from disk and restored my existing set up from Time Machine.
The stuck upgrade got me thinking and I've taken Adobe's latest updater plist file out of my Library/LaunchAgents folder a noticed it in a discussion post. Along with turning off Growl which is also suspected. Much more stable now.
No idea how you would uninstall growl…. anybody know?
