No real news yet as to how it went. I thought about getting out to a store early to pick one up. Then I changed my mind. I am saving for a new iMac for her indoors so being trendy will just have to wait. Mr Cat

It seems as though the queues were modest, being only a hundred or so at the major stores.

It seems that from O2s point of view this was not a day to be proud of. Clicky

Not much extra to report. The launch has been popular but the logging on process could not cope seems to be the story all over. Some sites are apparently calling it the ipodcalypse

Well I will tell you my experience I was on the O2 website to pre-order at 8AM last Monday. I got to the end of the purchasing process when I put my back details in and the screen went white. I was gripped with panic as I had clicked an email link to get there and I thought I was the victim of a Phishing scam. One hour later the site came back on and ordering the 16 GB phone was greyed out. This soon went down too and was replaced by the watch this space screen. On friday morning I went to my home town's O2 shop and they had only 2 x 16 BG models and they had both gone immediately. In the next town they had not even bothered opening any earlier they had 5 business type guys in cars sitting outside with face like thunder. I called in later in the morning to see the two assistants throwing paper balls at each other. I said I take it you have sold your stock of iphones then and are on the wind down for the rest of the day. er um we have not sold a SINGLE ONE ! the O2 computer for doing credit checks has crapped itself under the load and they are not allowed to sell any not even put display models out !! I asked what is your stock level , initially he was not going to tell me then said 3 x 8 gb's and NO 16 's ! They told me its a really slack day with the twelfth holiday here in N.Ireland only stuff they had was cheap pay as you go phones to the foreigners. That and saying they could not sell iphones of course. I will enquire again tomorrow but if I cannot source a iPhone 16 Gb before my PAC code from Orange expires at the end of the month. There will be NO iphone and I will look at alternatives like the new touch screen *Samsung I made a solemn vow about that. Before you all say this is O2 problem not Apples I very much beg to differ as I think Mr Jobs is quite happy to get free advertising on the BBC news with queues of people killing each other to buy his products. *I played with that very nice Samsung phone in the O2 shop when taling to the paper balls throwers I guess you might call it an ANTI Halo effect
