ClickyIt seems that it did not take too long to unlock the iPhone 3G. I am not sure whether this is a good thing or not. I am the kind of cat who is nervous of doing anything that is not authorised so for me it is a bit academic. Anyone here planning on an unlock? If so why? Mr Moggy

i believe that this is not an unlock (sim unlock) just a jailbreak of the 2.0 Firmware the true iPhone 3G unlock will take a while longer due to the different 3G modem/radio inside.
edit:- i think the unlock issue wont play as big a part this time around as there's no way to get your hands on a iphone without a contract so the main use an unlock will get is for international travelers for the time being
sorry Mr Meeow

I agree, I don't think the unlock will play as big a part this time. I bought a couple of the 1st gen 8GB iPhones for £169 each just to unlock and sell on.
I do have a friend though who bought the 3G 16GB upgrade just because he can (as he has a 1st gen iPhone) and is waiting for the unlock so that he can sell the phone on at a big profit without ever activating it on his current contract.
They are going for up to £700 on Ebay at the moment and he only paid £159 for it. He intends to keep his SIM in his old iPhone, so I think there may be a small market for people like this.
cheers
Ray

The activate, unlock and jailbreak are only for the 2G phones at the moment. You can activate and jailbreak a 3G phone but you cannot unlock it yet. I have a week 27 2G phone and had to upgrade from the first version of software... now its so easy with the pwnage tool from the DEV team. I have a version 2.0.2 software phone in South Africa on a network thats not even going to release the phone... haha. When I get to the UK I will get a 3G model.
Just a note... this is the phone that I have used the most and I am not tired of. My last phone was a Nokia E90 and that just lasted a month.
