I have a number of home recordings, made on a CD recorder. I usually just pop these into iTunes and carry them about on my iPod.
Now I want to send a copy of one of the tracks to a friend. I would like it to be in mp3 format. Learned brethren I would be delighted to know what would be the best way to achieve this?

When you say that the recordings are made on a CD recorder do you mean a CD recorder inside a computer (using software) or a standalone CD recorder (ie a CD version of a tape recorder)?
If you are using software to produce the CDs, what file format do the CDs get produced at to 'naturally'?
----------
I'm assuming that you have a standalone CD recorder which produces audio CDs (CD-DA).....
I assume that you have iTunes set to import music tracks and convert to AAC....
simplest option may be to temporarily change the import option within iTunes to import as an MP3 rather than AAC, import the track(s) and then change import options back again.

Pro CD recorder to "Red Book" standard. (AIFF?)
Made via SPDIF and TOS Link from a Sony Minidisc recorder.
