I have installed perian. When I open front row it shows a picture of the start of the file in the listing page but when I try to play it I get neither sound nor picture. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

What codec was used to compress the movie? Select the file in Finder and do CMD-I to bring up the information on the file. The codec might not be installed or be compatible?
Can you play the video OK outside of front row - in Quicktime?
If I can't play something in Quicktime I usually default to VLC. Not sure that'd help play it in Front Row though......

There are so many codecs
I have no video to speak of on my Mac at the moment. Is there a preferred cross platform file type that I should use when I start?

Sorry - you're right. There is no codec information for CMD-I with AVI files. Does work for quicktime though - I assumed it was a general thing!
