Seems that Apple are threatening to shut down iTunes if their margins are cut. It makes one wonder just how slim the pickings really are… Clicky

I heard about this on the Macbreak podcast, I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't have just increased the prices to go along with this rather than remove the music store completely but I guess we'll never know. I don't buy music through the store anyway.

iTunes (the store not the app.) has apparently never made much money for Apple. It is just a convenient way to leverage sales of iPods. iTunes (the app.) Could just as easily have any store in it's sidebar. Or even a whole host of stores each paying Apple a cut of the sales price. It may be that Apple are looking for an excuse to pull out of the download business.
