But you can still use Genius without being bothered by Store recommendations. Just hide/turn off the Genius Sidebar. I know. I have it hidden now, because it gives me nothing of benefit. It's just as well iTunes is free software, otherwise I'd never have upgraded it (running an iPod aside). Genius playlists are so much better than random track shuffling (notwithstanding the aforementioned Beatles licensing issue) I know you're not alone in saying that, but it simply was not the case for me. I gave it a fair whack, too, and found the results were no better or worse than the bog standard random shuffle. Add to that it seems to generate playlists from your whole collection, which is fine if you don't mind The Travelling Wilburys segueing into Monteverdi. Which I do. To avoid that situation I have a comprehensive set of smart playlists, from which I can randomly shuffle for nine days without hearing the same track twice. For me, Genius is a fail. Others find it works. Good luck to them.
