iWeb is OK to getting something simple done pretty quickly. People complain that the code it generates is a little bloated, but for reasonably small sites I don't think that's really an issue. As for hosting domains, I've used www.freeparking.co.uk in the past. Not sure if they are the cheapest or the best, but I've never had problems with them.

It might be worth having a look at whether a dedicated serverside blogging application (for example WordPress wordpress.org, or Blogger www.blogger.com) would meet your needs. Using a blogging application could allow other people to assist you with maintaining and updating the website content by accessing the admin controls. Accessing and using the admin controls in this way can be done from almost any computer with internet access and without the need to have too much computer knowledge (although different levels of admin privileges can usually be set to restrict how much each person can actually change).

I've done a page on iweb and I've got a domain but I can't get one to the other. Do I need an ftp server or uploader or something? Please help a beginner!!! ;D Looking into it a bit further i think I need a .mac account and even then it is complicated. Anyone know of a cheap/free website building software?

What service(s) have you actually purchased from Freeparking?
From a quick look at their site they offer two packages: domain name parking - which includes POP3 email addresses, the ability to create upto 4 webpages using their tools and some other tools related to domain name forwarding. website hosting - which uses a Windows 2003 server and gives you the ability to transfer webpages which you have created to the server via ftp file transfer (and also includes POP3 email addresses + your domain name(s) being pointed to the website hosted on the server).

If you do have a hosting plan with Freeparking then you need to transfer the webpage(s) which you have created to their server. This will probably need to be done using ftp file transfer.
I haven't used iWeb so can't really give much advice on whether this can be done from within iWeb (or how to do so if it can). However it looks like you might need to create a folder on your computer for the webpage(s) which you create with iWeb to be placed into and then use an ftp client application to transfer the webpage(s) to Freeparking's server.

Wow! I did it!!! www.uptonmagnets.co.uk/Site/Welcome.htmlJust a holding page but still ;D Thanks for your tips. Used Filezilla to upload the files that iweb saved then stuck them in the www file. Wil keep on working on it but so far so good.

Just a quick tip - the home page title really needs to be "index.html". This means that when you upload it to where it's going to live, people can just type in the URL, like www. myplace. org or whatever and not worry about having to type "Welcome.html" as well.

Don't know how to do that but just typing www.uptonmagnets.co.uk takes you there anyway. My new problem is after doing a bit more work in iweb I've saved it to my folder and it looks like filezilla has upoaded it. However the actual website looks the same, non of my new bits are showing. Any ideas? Oooh, hold the front page. It is now showing the new stuff!!!! Is there a delay built in somewhere? Not sure what i did to make it work!! ps this is fun!

I agree with HeatherKay that it would be a good idea to get into the habit of giving the webpage which you intend to use as the home page the title of "index.html".
Having said that, I think that FreeParking uses domain name forwarding to get to the home page (this would mean that whichever webpage FreeParking is set up to use as the home page is what it forward to if the website's domain is entered).

I've done mine with iWeb. One of the easiest ways to get a web site up and running.. aside from slipping someone some cash to do it for ya. My domain name just links to Apples hosting service so no need to type in the URL from iWeb, although Apple will allow you to this 'in-house', i've just go in to my settings, at my domain hosting service, and clicked on where to send people. Pity there's no way of doing flash on it, but you can't have everything for the money. And it sort of suits my website content anyways not to have things moving around on pages. I really like that I can upload new stuff to the site within minutes, and can change the 'look' just as quick. One thing to think about, 'MobileMe' single user account just allows for the one website, but if you buy the 'family account' then you get a few to play with for only a little more money. www.robtomlin.com
