I have found the calculations function in Spotlight very useful in the past, and needed to use it today. Usually, I would be able to type "2+2" and it would return the answer… Errrmmm… "4". As you can see, this no longer happens, and it's very annoying. Spotlight does work as per usual, however, to find files, emails, contacts and so on. I haven't changed anything recently on here, but I can't really say exactly when it stopped working. Any ideas, please? Thanks, Peter.

Do you have TinkerTool or Onyx installed?
I know the former has an option to switch off the Spotlight calculator, and I presume Onyx has the same. Is it possible you've "tinkered"?

It's not like me to "tinker" with things Unfortunately, I don't have either of those. More to the point, I've never actually heard of either of those, but you've made me curious now! Thanks for the suggestion, Peter.

I've downloaded TinkerTool for a bit of a "tinker". Using it, I disabled the calculator functions and tried re-enabling them, but they still do not work Peter.

Ok
Do the other spotlight functions work?
If you type in it does it trigger iTunes as the top hit for example?

this is a bit of a longshot, but did the timing of calculations ceasing to work in spotlight co-inside with an update to OS X 10.5.6?

Have you tried rebuilding the spotlight database? That's something I haven't looked into. I'm not with my Mac right now, but I will certainly try that, thank you this is a bit of a longshot, but did the timing of calculations ceasing to work in spotlight co-inside with an update to OS X 10.5.6? Actually, you may be onto something here. I honestly do not remember the function working since the 10.5.6 update. What would this mean, please? Thanks guys, Peter.

What would this mean, please? Thanks guys, Peter. It would mean that if you went back to the Apple site and then re-installed the Combo update to Leopard it would probably fix your issue. Cat

This is not a feature I've come across before - I have a till-roll calculator on my desk & am often in Excel - but it could be really useful. Interestingly, it only seems to work if you call up spotlight from the magnifying glass icon on the menu bar. If you bring up a full spotlight window using option command space, for example, it doesn't work!
