Hi, First post so pls be kind. Where can I find email addresses that I have used in the past that are not stored in my address book on my Mac? I'll give an example. I received an email the other week,to which I replied, from a new friend who's details had not been entered into my address book. If I have deleted that email how can I find his details again? Maybe it's me...... GIA

If I have deleted that email how can I find his details again? Maybe it's me...... GIA Two obvious answers that spring to mind. 1. Have you looked in the deleted messages folder? The one in the side bar of Mail 2. Are you running Time Machine? If so you can go back in time to the day your mate sent you the Email that you deleted. Catp.s. A big meyow of a welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the Pussy Cat Club.
In addition to the suggestions from Forum Cat here are a few more (I'm assuming you would prefer not to go poking around in the operating system's inner workings if it can be avoided):
1) If you haven't deleted the email which you sent in reply to your friend, then it will probably still be in the "sent" mailbox - which will probably be on the left of the window in mail.app along with "inbox" and "trash" mailboxes.
2) If you click on the "new message" button towards the top of the window in mail.app this should open another window (with all the fields empty) ready for you to write a new email. If you then type a single letter in the "To:" box, auto complete should offer all possible options of email addresses based on emails you have opened and sent using mail.app Assuming you can remember the first letter of the forename, surname, or email address for your friend this should be quite quick. Otherwise you can make your way through the alphabet one letter at a time.
3) You haven't said what type of email account you have which is being accessed by mail.app on your Mac. If you have a web-based email account (ie. yahoo, googlemail, etc) which you access in mail.app using POP then (depending upon your settings in mail.app), the email message you have deleted from mail.app on you Mac might still exist on the server of your email account and be accessible via the web browser based interface.

Two more suggestions - one of which might even count as a 'tip' for Uncle Mac:
1. You can view the address panel by selecting <Address Panel> in the <Window> menu - this gives you access to your address book to insert an address if Mail can't automatically insert it.
2. And this is the neat option - in the same <Window> menu, there is an option to view <Previous Recipients>. If you have sent an email to someone, but forgotten to save their email address it will probably be in that list.
You can view the list in various ways by clicking on the header to each column. So, for example, clicking on the <Last Used> header will sort the addresses so you can work out which are the oldest. If you know the name of the recipient, you can click on <Name> to sort them alphabetically by surname etc.
You can also remove an address from the list. It may be that Mail keeps autocompleting an address, defaulting to a contacts' old address. Just highlight it, and click <Remove from List>
And, of course, as you obviously want to keep the address once you've found it, you can click <Add to Address Book> to create a new card for the contact.
Hope this helps
Tim
