I got out of the car this evening and managed to drop my iPhone from about four foot up into the air onto a hard concrete surface. This is very unusual for me, I'm normally very careful about how I look after things. The phone is undamaged. The case isn't. I hate to think what state the phone would be in now if it hadn't been in the Switcheasy CapsuleNeo case. I've emailed them with details of what happened and I'm hoping I can get a replacement back piece (the part which has broken). If not, I'll buy another case of the same type. It just goes to show that no matter how careful we are, accidents can happen and I'm just pleased that I had my iPhone in a decent case. I should add that although this sounds like sales pitch, I have no relationships with the case manufacturer other than being a happy customer.

I like the look of that case. I wonder if they do one for a 5th gen iPod?

I've dropped my iPhone a couple of times - both times without a case. I have a tiny chip on one corner, but otherwise no damage. I guess they are actually pretty rugged. My problem is that suit manufacturer's make nice phone pockets which don't spoil the line of your jacket - but they make them too small for iPhone to fit and button up. I've stopped using the phone pocket and have now invested in a case.

It does seem strange that the makers of casual clothing have instantly cottoned on to the fact that people want to listen to music (or even BM podcasts) whilst wearing their clothes, while suit manufacturer's still think we all carry nothing but tiny phones. My anorak (what the young people would call a ski jacket, I think) from Tog24 not only has a lovely sized pocket with a zip, it has a waterproof hole for the headphones to fit through.
