Hi Will / BM forum members.
Wondered if you could help out this mac switching n00b (and yes I did do a google, searched apple discussions, etc but time to turn to my favorite podcast).
So my "I did this in Windows how do I do it in mac" question.
In windows, with any dialog that has more than one button you could cycle through the buttons with the tab key - how does one do this in a mac, for example the power button dialog that has 'Restart', 'Sleep', 'Cancel' and 'Shut Down'?
Many thanks, tones

Go to Applications>System Preferences
From there, select Keyboard & Mouse
Go to the tab called "Keyboard shortcuts"
At the bottom of this screen you will see "Full keyboard access"
Make sure you have "All controls" selected
Now, when you wish to move through options such as sleep, restart, etc. just press the Tab key to cycle through them. The default option will always be glowing blue and can be actioned by pressing the Return key. The option that you are cycling through will be highlighted in a lighter blue and is selected by pressing the Space Bar.
I'll do a little tutorial on this as you are probably not the only person who has wondered how to do this and words are harder to understand than pictures.

Hi Mabsey
Your a star, thank you. I was wondering why all keyboard shortcut cheatsheets listed 'Tab' as 'highlight next item', yet as hard as I pressed that d**n key it wouldn't highlight the next button!
All becomes clear now, but I do wonder why this isn't enabled in the prefs by default.

On my mac, that was as standard. I use that fairly often but have never changed any options (to do with this) in the preferences.

It was standard on my MBP but not my PPC Mac Mini.

Hmm, not standard on my 1 month old MBP - maybe down to the QA tester forgetting to set it before it leaves the factory?.
