I went to my very first dedicated Apple Store today. It has only just opened on the 16th February, in Eldon Square in Newcastle.
It was sooo busy. So much so that it annoyed me. It was filled with giggling little girls, nerds, screaming kids, swarms of people and the kind of arse you see in Starbucks with a MacBook, sitting, stroking his goatee beard and thinking he's cool when he's really just fat.
I went in primarily to see it, but while I was there I thought I should check to see how much Snow Leopard was. It was £25, which is £5 cheaper than I thought it would be.
While the Apple Stores are a good thing, I don't want Macs to become common between all the people in there today. I like to feel I'm part of an elite group who have 'seen the light'.
What angered me further was that almost everyone was crowding around the display computers, while I walked over to the almost untouched software section. (This made me feel like an Elite again )
Even through all of this, I still thought: I would love to have a job in here. Just now I have been on the Apple site and sent them my CV and a cover letter for that branch. I thought that the crowds of 'the Thick' would eventually get bored of shiny things and the shop would return to how it's supposed to look: Clean, white, smooth and organised.
I wonder now if when/if the owner of the shop gets my application, will they know it was sent from an iMac? If it does say, do you think there's a chance I'd get preferred over a PC user? After all, I am part of the Elite.
