I have just downgraded my contract with O2 I bought my 3GS on the day that it came out in the UK. This means that nine months have passed. After 9 months O2 let you downgrade your contract if you so wish. Thus my £35 a month is now £30 a month. :-) I am not too bothered by 18 months of contract as I think my joy of ownership should surpass the sorrow of not getting the iPhone version 4 when it comes out. Even so a part of me hopes that iPhone v4 will not be too much better than iPhone v3

I think I have another year on mine - don't know I don't think I'd upgrade anyhow. It does everything I need right now and unless my needs change I can't see any other phone bettering it yet.
Plus I have invested so much in time and apps getting the iPhone how I want it that I don't want to restart that process again with another phone.
That been said the only thing that would make me upgrade is if the hardware was no longer supported by Apple.

As one who is currently on his fourth iPhone (the story is elsewhere on the forum) - you don't need to worry about this particular issue. When you first plug your new phone in to iTunes, you are offered the opportunity to restore from the last backup of your previous phone. As far as I can remember, the only thing I lost was the high scores in Bejewelled.

I meant another phone in general. I think I'm on my third iPhone anyhow..but I just mean changing OS or phones. I am happy with what I have.

Windows users have long been reluctant to move to OS X because their programs may not work. It is almost strange to see the situation reversed.

My 18 month iPhone 3G came to the end of its contract with O2 today. I phoned up to go for a monthly Simplicity contract but it was £5 per month cheaper if I signed up for 12 months. Here's twisted logic for you. My thinking is that by signing up for another 12 months it helps prevent me from upgrading a perfectly good iPhone to a 3GS or the next model due out in June/July! Anyway, need the money for my iPad
