I'll begin by saying I haven't watched any TV since probably May this year. Seriously. In my flat I'm with 6 other people and they all watch TV, but they don't want to pay the license. I said I would pay my equal share but they are fully against paying it at all, and now we get red letters saying people are coming over because we ignored the last letter. They still won't pay it.
What more persuasion do these people need? If someone comes over and finds a TV set up will we all get fined? "Maximum of £1000 fine in addition to legal costs".
There is no way for this to end well, unless everyone else pays up, now, before the guy comes round.
However, each bedroom is classed as it's own address (by the room number). I replied to my personal letter because I don't have a TV set up, but it's the one in the living area which is. Will the owner of the TV be fined? It's not mine, so am I OK? The BBC isn't even worth £145.50 a year. They only seem to waste it on funding Jeremy Clarkson to buy denim socks and getting the Queen to do a speech on Christmas Day.

The BBC isn't even worth £145.50 a year. While I agree with your earlier sentiments, I really must take issue with this statement. However, since you've not had the chance to watch any of the really very good television programmes the BBC has pumped out over the summer and in to the autumn, perhaps you should be let off. Oh, and watch this YooChoob link and then tell me the BBC isn't value for money. www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3q2iZuU5WM

Hmmm. Obviously you feel different to me. I think 80% of the BBC's programming is filler, with the remaining being good, namely their documentaries, which admittedly are second to none. I also feel that the BBC are too sensitive. It's the 21st century and they still broadcast like it's 1950. I think eventually the BBC will become nothing more than an optional choice, like Sky or Virgin Media, with the commercial channels being free. However, this would take a very ling time to change. Since they git rid of Russell Brand they have gone downhill in my opinion. That 'scandal' was hideously blown out of all proportion and no mainstream news reported the true story, only what had been made up by speculation and The Daily Mail's lie machine.
Oh, and I like Life On Mars. However, I think that Channel 4 will eventually become the BBC's main rival. They seem ruok be the only channel which is prepared to take risks and break new ground for TV. And they can get away with it. In all seriousness, the only channel I ever watched anyway was E4, for about half an hour a week to watch Scrubs.
All in all, I think I could very happily survive without watching anything more from the BBC. Russell Brand and Life on Mars were possibly the only things I can remember enjoying enough to listen to regularly, and Radio 2 is free anyway.

Radio 2 is paid for by the telly tax, so while it is true to say you don't have to pay for the TT but still receive BBC radio, it ain't free. (Pedantic, I know.)
There's probably two or three shows I watch on Channel 4. Time Team, Grand Designs and any particularly interesting historical/scientific documentary going. Otherwise, it's stuff on More4 and Film4. I watch a ton of great stuff on BBC4 - there is an excellent music strand on Friday nights, which last night included a live performance by Chuck Berry in 1972, recorded at the old BBC TV Theatre. There's an arts strand on Thursday nights which has been very educational.
Just because you think 80% of the Beeb's output is filler doesn't mean it actually is. Yes, daytime BBC is crap on a stick, but even BBC1 has recently had some intriguing home-made drama of an afternoon. And don't forget Doctor Who, Sherlock - which was totally excellent - and any number of period dramas.
British television would be in very dire straits if it was not for the BBC. If all we had was commercial television, I seriously doubt the output from British TV would be anywhere near what it has been for the past few decades. People in other countries look with envy at our TV, and the way the Beeb is funded is just a part of it.
Compared to the Sky subscription tax of roughly £35 a month or more, I think getting free telly and radio for less than £15 a month is very good value indeed.
(This is something of a hobby horse of mine. Apologies for dragging the thread off topic.)

I know that my opinion doesn't apply to everyone, but personally, I do not watch £150 worth of TV a year, on any channels. For the amount I do watch it would be cheaper to buy everything I like on DVD. But I suppose you can't escape it. Just part of the many silly taxes you are forced to pay, even of you never use what you are paying for.

What would snowmen be without snowballs? Snowwomen. Although political correctness has you call them 'snow people' now instead. Don't want to be sexist now, do we?

Late nights make you a bit sleepy the next day. Not much activity here at the moment. Still it is that time of year is it not?

How come alcoholics tend to be skinny? No a beer bellies…. Because they drink spirits? Maybe they eat less so they can afford to drink more?

I don't know if I mentioned it, but I got a HTC Desire a few weeks ago. It's a pretty good phone, and Android is better than I expected, but it's no iPhone. Not a patch. I'm going to do a 'Definitive Review' and put it on the blog. But since I got it, I now have access to Twitter when away from the computer, so I've been using it a bit. I mainly upload tweets for my own amusement, I aim to confuse any followers who I don't actually know by posting random and out of context tweets, which only I can understand. twitter.com/TelepathicGoose
