Hi,
I wonder if some kind soul could help me. I've extended my LAN using Solwise homeplugs (www.solwise.co.uk). These are great and work fine with my iMac and Humax Freesat PVR downstairs a long way from my cable modem and router.
So far so good, but they only come with Windoze admin software, so I can't set the encryption passwords on them (altho' I have using my partner's creaking old XP laptop). Does anyone know of an admin app for Snow Leopard that I could use, as I fear that I won't be able to sort them out when I carry out the final Stalinist purge of Win-doh!'s. They have Intellon chips in them.
I should say that one of the homeplugs has a wireless extender, so it is important that I encrypt the wi-fi.
Any help gratefully received.

I've had a quick look at the user manual for one of Solwise's WiFi extender / home plugs found at www.solwise.co.uk/downloads/files/pew_mk2usermanual.pdf - not sure if this is the one you've got, but it seemed to be the current model..... From the manual it looks like once everything is plugged in and switched on you can access the device's set up and configuration settings by opening your web browser and typing http://192.168.1.1 as the 'web site' address (or whatever you've changed it to if the default IP address has been changed using the utility software). Your computer should then connect to the device and be asked for a user name and password (default user name is admin and default password is password - again this will be different if you've changed them using the utility software). The configuration settings pages which should then be available in your web browser window should allow you to change WiFi security settings (including encryption modes and passwords). In addition these pages should allow you to change other settings related to the device and also carry out firmware updates. One additional setting which it is probably a good idea to change asap if it hasn't been done already is the password for accessing the configuration settings pages (having 'password' as the password is rather easy for other people to guess!). _________________________ I can't give a definite answer for the Solwise devices, but with most manufacturers of networking products their utility software does nothing more than providing what they consider to be a more user friendly way of changing the configuration settings. in doing so the software often simply ask lots of questions before it accesses the configuration settings pages for you - often taking 5 minutes to do something for you which you could do for yourself in 2 minutes.

Thanks CyberChimp. I found the wireless networking UI by accident yesterday while looking for another bookmark. I've been advised via the Solwise forum it's worthwhile adding passwords on the (non-wireless) homeplugs, which does seem to need a Windows app. I don't quite understand the complete and utter lack of Mac software for this.
