Hello guys I need a little help please. We have the Virgin super hub VMDG480 (Netgear ) . I would like to extend the range by adding a Airport Express. My question is will the Express work with this router ? I don't want to go out and buy one and find it's not compatible. Thank you Grant

I cant see any reason for it not working. My modem/router is a netgear rangemax adsl version However I do understand there are numerous problems with some of Virgins supplied routers (a friend of mine has one and I think they are exchanging it) You may want to ask the question on the Virgin forums at clicky

No positive answer on this forum or others so I took it into my own hands and bought the airport express. No problem with the music or printer they work fine . But not a chance of extending the range over wi-fi which I bought it for originally. We will be switching to sky soon so it may work with their router ( hopefully ) I will let you know how I get on. Thanks sjbuchanan007 for your input.

I get the impression that "extending" a WiFi network using Aiport (Extreme or Express) is typically Apple-centric. I have an Extreme connected to my O2 router using ethernet. I then have an Express in my bedroom on the first floor and another Extreme in my office in the attic. It works like a dream. On the other hand, if I attempt to use the O2 WiFi and extend that using either the Extreme or the Express I simply get the message that "this network cannot be extended." I have tried this with a variety of routers on a variety of networks now and have only ever been able to extend Apple networks.

Extending a wireless network is a tricky thing and data speeds can be truncated quite severely. I gave up on the concept quite some time ago. There is in my mind only two satisfactory ways to extend a network. 1) Run a proper ethernet cable. 2) Use a Homeplug

Thanks Forum Cat. Your not the only person to recommend the Home plug system to me. So Homeplug here we come.
