Way too geeky for me too but do think it's a wonderful project. Will hopefully inspire a new generation of British computing talent.

I'm definitely getting one (at least!) i can see people with the right skills buying quite a few as controllers for other things.. robots,, all sorts. Won't be me though. I spent at least three months during my computing course at school (1982) trying to debug a program and finally someone looked over my shoulder and pointed out a comma that wan't supposed to be there! Most frustrating thing in the world

haha, sorry about that beerbum. When I was at Uni I suggested creating an auto-correcting (spelling-checker, almost) compiler. Not sure if anyone has done it yet. We are about to return to the golden age. Professor Steve Furber (you MUST know him, BBC Micro! and CBE, and ARM.) - his report in the name of the Royal Society (Christmas Lectures!) has just been published. Recommendation: No more (generalised) ICT in schools. We need Computer Science, IT and Digital Literacy. You need to read the paper's exec summary (link upper right of the page: royalsociety.org/education/policy/computing-in-schools/report/ ) to get the definitions, but Raspberry Pi in my opinion is going to be part of that. We really need it.

These devices are intended for use in school courses. Given the purported state of schooling by Prof F I think anyone reading this will a) be fine with using/understanding one and b) helping any school in the vicinity. I encourage everyone here to get one to support the charity. Let's learn together, and help others - including our kids for those that have them.

Once we know the cost details (should be $35 for the model B (only one available on day one), so maybe £20?) - probably postage will be the deciding factor. Can we club together in regions to reduce this? Anyway, we should understand this further once ordering details become clear.
