I am aghast that, given who is here, that the late Mr Adams has not made it to this list.

I'm fairly positive - in fact totally positive that Douglas Adams was a Icon. I've done a HHGTHG Icon and Douglas Adams in the tour around the world he did looking at endangered animals in the early nineties. I remember because my Mom bought me the CD as a Christmas present! I think the wonderful Stephen Fry (whom I love but is at the cusp of over-exposure I fear) is revisiting Adams' trip.

(according to my notes) H2G2 has actually been the icon twice - episode 16 and episode 68.
I haven't managed to get hold of an archive copy of BM episode 68, but I think that it may well have been Will's intention that Douglas Adams was the icon, and the show notes prompted him to play a clip from H2G2 (?)
