A rather strange question, but does anybody know the correct pronunciation of Arial, as in the font?
Some of my colleagues pronounce it as "Air-real", however I pronounce it as "Ah-real". Any ideas, please?
Thanks,
Peter.

Well when I studied graphic design at college my tutors used to say "Ah-real", although when I went to uni my tutors there said "Air-real" and these are people who use typefaces in graphics all the time so maybe it just comes down to personal preference..?
My tutor also always used to say 'italics' as 'eye - talics', whereas i've always said it as 'it-talics'...

I used to have a client who pronounced Helvetica as "helve-teeka". ;D Did your tutor go to Eye-tally for their hols?

Arial - pronounced H-E-L-V-E-T-I-C-A isn't it? I should warn you I hold 5th dan in typoholicalism. Such comments could lead me to lose my cool. Arial is to Helvetica as the Steptoes' horse is to an Arab stallion. ;D

Arial is to Helvetica as the Steptoes' horse is to an Arab stallion. ;D I suspect that some on here would not remember the venerable Hercules. Suffice to say he was not a race horse from a rival stable.

I love the way that photo has the word "Mac" discretely positioned top right.

So who cares how it is pronounced? Don't use it, don't talk about it

Don't use it, don't talk about it Most of the time, I don't. However, there are one or two clients who insist. When I work for them, a little piece inside me dies.
