I am trying to convert my mates to use Skype, but they cant be bothered because they are too lazy.
Has anyone got any ideas to convince them to come over?
Does anyone here use skype?

I don't.
I am not even sure why I might want to. I use the normal telephone and iChat. What advantages does Skype have for you?

Are you trying to convert them to just use skype primarily, or as an addition to landlines/mobiles.
Obviously skype is free computer to computer and is multi platform - now iphone too. All the usual IM features plus the Skype Out bits and bobs.
I've never used ichat, never worked out how your supposed to create an account if you don't have .mac/mobile me, so i can't tell the differences between them.

Basically Msn messenger on mac is awful and I would like to use an alternative. Id love to use iChat but none off my mates own macs, so I though Id use skype.
Im talking about them switching their IM service rather than actual phones.

If you genuinely only want to stop using MSN - why not try one of the third party clients which are compatible with MSN on Mac? This looks a useful starting point. <clicky>I use Skype a lot because I exist in a largely PC world and few of them have access to iChat and AIM stinks - it hardly ever works and fills your PC with adware. But that is mostly about video chats. I also like the ability to dial landlines - when I live an international jetsetting life, I'll probably use it to call back to the UK for the cost of a local call! Incidentally, I was impressed to be able to make a Skype video call whilst on the train yesterday! Tim

I use aMsn, its a bit resource hungry, but found it to be the best of the msn ones for doing video. I'd take skype any day over amsn if not for the majority of my friends using msn.

I was with a group of friends when I made my Skype video call on train the other day. One of them was so impressed she has got it installed immediately! That seems to work.

I have a question, how did you do it on a train? (NO PUN/INNUENDO INTENDED!)

Ignoring the non-innuendo - I discovered last week that Virgin are testing a WiFi service on their Manchester-London service. So I simply connected to it - no sign up/ no fees at the moment at least - and had a reasonable broadband service all the way down and back. I was able to listen to Spotify and make Skype calls. It worked perfectly with both my Macbook Pro and my iPhone - which I was so excited about, I promptly left it on the train from where it has never been recovered But otherwise it was almost as fast as being on my home network.
