I just had a brainwave.
I could create a completely innocuous application that makes a big show of scanning folk's machines for nasties. It won't need to specify what it's looking for, just bog the system down for a bit, and then announce it's found nothing in an annoying way just as you're about to do something important.
Do you think it'll catch on?

Not really people will start to use better alternatives.

Not really people will start to use better alternatives. Pity. I thought I was onto something there. Perhaps the other software makers have beaten me to it. ;D

I know I started this thread by asking what Anti-Virus to use, but I have just come across the following to add :- macmost.com/do-macs-need-antivirus.htmlI haven't done anything else with my iMac, I still have the Intego software installed that was supplied when new, I am thinking about removing it but have read I may encounter problems in doing so.

It took me months to get Intego AV off my system.
The best way is to find the disc you installed it from and use the authorised uninstaller. This assumes you have not upgraded your version of OS X in the meanwhile. Unless you are seriously skilled I would not attempt to unistall any other way. If you have upgraded OS X since installing the AV then I would contact Intego before proceeding.
I had to contact the help desk at Intego in the end and they helped me remove the last remnants.
Here is the Youtube clip again

That will be my problem then, I was running 10.5 when I installed intego, I am now running 10.6.2 Looks like this will have to wait a while, thanks for the advice Mr. C.

Just send them a email. Eventually they will get back to you with full instructions. It will be simple enough if you do it their way. Just don't do it any other way. I learnt the hard way so you don't have to.
