Hi Mike,
Great news that both you, Ben and Keith can make it. I know Keith is booked into the Robin Hood but there's loads of B&B's and Hotel's in Ironbridge. If you want posh then try the Valley Hotel (http://www.thevalleyhotel.co.uk/), The Swan, The Malthouse and The White Hart offer medium priced but excellent accommodation. The Tontine is cheap and cheerful but almost on top of the bridge, or The Station across the bridge is again cheap and cheerful. Plus there is two YHA's in Ironbridge, one close to where Keith is stopping and the other is the other side of Ironbridge (a huge Gothic Victorian place) - both within 10 minutes of the centre.
Along the stretch running along the river are a string of great pubs and bars, with an excellent curry house to boot! See you then!!

Dear All, Please forgive this unsolicited post, but I thought that if you had missed the news in the podcast this might be of interest. If you fancy a beer or two (alcoholic or not of course) - listeners of British Mac are gathering together on Saturday 6th of December at the Malthouse Pub at 8.00 pm in Ironbridge, Shropshire. Here's the link to the pub www.themalthouseironbridge.comThe purpose is in good old fashioned style, a Christmas meet up and the meet up of old and new friends (even if we've never met in person before!). If you've never been to Ironbridge before and would like to bring your family there is loads to do. Ironbridge is a world heritage site set in a beautiful valley with the River Severn running through the town with pubs, bars, café', and restaurants along-side the river. There is also a living Victorian town, Coalbrookdale and River museums, plus Enginuity - a 'science museum' style activity centre for children and adults. There's loads of B&B's, Hotels, Pubs and two YHA's to stop in to suit all pockets! Plus I'll be recording a special British Mac podcast on the night - so I hope if you're available you'll come down to Ironbridge for a night of good humoured fun, Mac gossip and cheer! Hopefully see you then, Cheers, Will

phoned 7 B&B's and it was in danger of becoming a real nativity story - no rooms at any of the sodding inns But, managed to find a place just down the road in Brosely www.broseleyhouse.co.uk/AA route planner says 2.5 miles from the meet-up so not going to kill us in taxi fares see you all there in fact, Will suggested 8pm meet-up...... but does anyone fancy trying one of the local restaurants for an early evening nosh up, say sixish - best not to try some of Will's cocktails on an empty stomach Mike B

but does anyone fancy trying one of the local restaurants for an early evening nosh up, say sixish Love to. One of the places I called, I mentioned where we're going and he made a comment that it's a bit pricey there so perhaps munching beforehand would be a good idea. Good solid home cooked pub grub is what I'm after. A pie and a pint. By a pie, I mean a proper real pie with pasty all around, not just some weak meat soup in a bowl with a pastry lid on it! And by a pint, I mean a decent pile of ale!

I *really* wish I could make this. Unfortunately I am travelling for a School reunion the following week - and given the proximity to Christmas, I don't think I can afford it. Gutted!

good call Keith Let's be honest Will, we're not travelling all this way for an 8pm start So Will, do the honors matey, and recommend the ideal venue to get us started with pub grub good enough to eat while still sober - we'll still do the dodgy eating places at the end of the night, goes without saying! Either way Keith, I'll pm you with my moby so we'll get in touch on the day. I do plan to get there early afternoon, hopefully weather permitting, to have a wonder with my lens cap off MikeB

I just tried to tempt the missus to come to this and she just said "What am I supposed to do with you chatting to all your geeky Mac mates?"
I suppose she has a point... any ladies going or other halves?

Gutted! Me too. We should have another in the Summer, organised well in advance this time so that most of the forumites holidays can be avoided.

I too am gutted to say I can't be there. My job has me travelling all over the place, so I shall be nowhere near Ironbridge on that evening. Speaking from a completely selfish point of view, how about Cambridge for a summer meet? Much more doable for the southerners but also far more convenient for northerners than London.

Not likely - wish my missus would have considered it... hell, I'm having to share a twin room with my scary hitcher, Ben. MikeB

Seems I have to give up my place at the bar as work & family issues have arose for this particular weekend. So unfortunately I will not be attending
